Ahoy, mates! This time we come up with a band consisting only of two artists, a man and a woman, yin and yang. No wonder one of their favourite subjects is orgies and other devilries (the name of their 2003 album is eloquent: Cocktails, Carnage, Crucifixion And Pornography) , but the music flows gently enough to create an interesting contrast between the lyrics and the musical ambient. It was not a surprise to find out Simone from Spiritual Front is one of their best friends and the legend says he was introduced to Tomas during an orgy :)
The name's Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, and for those Romanians out there, a concert is scheduled on 15th of November in Brasov. Two is company, three is an orgy, four is forever! Nihilism and cumshots!

AC/DC World Tour?

Was just reading today that AC/DC might start a world tour in the fall of 2008. After a quick search I found via the ultimate acdc blog that they are supposed to start the tour on January 1st 2009, in NYC.

I strongly doubt they will come anywhere near Romania, but I can hope nevertheless. Well, at least it's not an Australian tour :-)

"You're coming aaaaaaall the way from Bucharest to see LOT?" a nice lady asked when I called in SM before the show to get the photo pass.

Ofc I was, I love LOT dearly. 750 km up North, 750 km down South, piece of cake. The train tickets cost 10 times more than the entrance fee at the concert. But the trip was definitely worth it.

Lake of Tears were so relaxed and carefree, obviously enjoying themselves, unlike the last time I saw them, in Bucharest last autumn. I wasn't "dying" to see them, since it was the second time in less than 1 year, and my initial excitement had had enough time to turn into a constant and profound fan...ship, but I liked them so much more than in September 2007, at Arenele Romane. Maybe they deal better with smaller crowds. I totally dig that.

But the show was so short! :( Only one encore, quite a quick one too, then they were rudely shooed to make way for the next band.

The public was quite a disappointment as well. Extremely few people, most of them under age. I mean, I'm willing to travel 1500 km to see a band who comes to play in a rock festival which cost 5.5 eur/day (?!?) and you people don't have the common courtesy to gather in a decent crowd? (Not to mention almost nobody knew the lyrics...). Well, I enjoyed it nevertheless. The more LOT for me :-P

I did my photoshooting session then retreated safely out of the way up on the hill, next to a nice bottle of wine. It was the first time I was listening to more than one of their tracks (Tears of time, ofc), but they were quite enjoyable, although the guys in my group complained about the faulty sound.

Desigur, vazand eticheta de "nihilist suicide pop", si stiind ca vin in concert cu o trupa precum Rome, te-ai astepta sa fie vorba de ceva bombastic, etc. Nu, nu, e Johnny Cash on acid and Tom Waits singing Oasis style. Si nu numai. O trupa extrem de catchy, care are multe de spus in peisajul destul de gri al muzicii alternative actuale.

Korpiklaani in Iasi, Romania

It's not the destination, it's the trip, they say. Well, for us the 400km was not at all trippy and could hardly wait to get to the damn destination asap. Iasi, Ciric, Rock'n Iasi, that is. Because Korpiklaani were going to play there!! At 12 sharp! Like a magic forest spirit who appears when the bell strikes 12, as the Lake of Tears say... (but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Again. LOT is one looong month ahead. And 750 km North).

We went, we drank, we sat, we drank some more, we walked about, drinking a little bit. We listened to some music and took turns in cursing, laughing heartily and even damn right enjoying the show (in this order: Kratos, Bucovina and G.O.D. - we actually enjoyed them alright, they play some mean barbarian metal and had a good Alma Mater cover).

Still waiting for the blond Finnish elves, we drank some more and even bet a bottle of vodka that they would start before 3 a.m. We lost. We drank.

At 4 a.m., when the bloody metal marathon before them finally ended, everybody was so inebeer-beer-ated that we hardly remember anything.

Thank god for the photos, the sore knees and blue toes to remind us that the party was pretty wild. Beer shower, pogo at will, disintegrating dancers hopping about like mad dwarves, headbangers stuck in a mystifying rotation and the guys on stage obviously delighted at the merry bunch who kept yelling and burping Beer Beer and Happy Little Boozer.

I truly liked them, they're fun on stage, even under the cold mist of the dawn, and despite the fact they came to sing, not to put on a Nordic folk show and that they had to perform on a soddin' basketball court at bloody 4:00 in the morning.

They said they'll be back. Don't miss them next time.

Under the Moonspell spell - the concert in Bucharest 2008

Initio ex abrupto: First thing - Portuguese men look damn good, and I'm not talking only about Fernando and the band, I've had the opportunity to see part of the crew together, and it was a fine looking bunch.

Second thing - I think I saw the perfect concert last night, with the perfect frontman: smart, handsome, with a dark, commanding, elegant and knee melting bearing. Yes, it might be love. Still pondering.

After a tormenting hour of what's-their-face? Indian Fall, a long long hour during which my partner tried to seek comfort in an eco toilet, unfortunately not deep enough... erm... not sound proof enough, here THEY came.

The amphitheater exploded. I started swearing. I was too far from the scene, even in the front row. I hate that sorry ass place. You have to sit in the rows or stand between the seats, there's no space to move around, but, true, you can see decently from about anywhere.

Now, revenons a nos moutons. The concert was freaking awesome. The sound was good, and I noticed that pieces that I did not really enjoy from the last album sounded quite alright live, especially Scorpion Flower.

They started en force with Wolfshade, but the first time I actually felt the cold thrill of the dark resonance was with Everything Invaded, when the deep bass and sounds made the whole bloody place reverberate with a forbidden exhilaration.

With Vampiria my hair stood on end. The man is Baal reincarnated. Never before had I felt a metal grunt so melodiously deep inside. You're a beast, evil one. My heart skipped a beat. And your star had start to shine. The crowd was utterly delirious. I was dumbfounded.

My other highlights of the night were Mephisto, the absolutely amazing Full Moon Madness and la piece de resistence, Alma Mater, which he sang with the Romanian flag over his sholders. Cliche? Damn right, but damn good.

Elysian Fields' Fine Fragrance

Yeah, the funky dog's here too!

So what do we have today in our store? Today we have one of the finest fragrances available (though "available" might not be quite the right word). It's Elysian Fields, baby! No, no, please don't begin to growl, it's not the greek ultra-growly metal band, it's the dreamy and luscious Jen and her bandmates.

I won't give you much about the band, you have Wikipedia for that, but i'll give you some inside opinions (and "inside" is quite the word, baby!) on their album, Queen of the Meadow. Or wait, was it Dreams That Breathe Your Name ? Can't remember. Not because their work is bland and repetitive, but because once you get lulled by Jen's soft, mildly pervert, naive-on-the-surface voice, you won't remember titles, songs, but feelings, baby, and i mean feelings. And you'll want to be loved baby, believe me loved hard, loved soft, and you'll want more. And it's not unisex, even it's for both the man and woman. The man of your dreams will be captivated by this romantic aroma, and the woman of your fantasies will be thrilled by your exquisite tastes. Don't miss it! You'll be forever grateful.

While drooling en avance at the thought of Korpiklaani in a couple of weeks in Iasi and In Extremo in a couple of months in Sibiu, I'm plaiting my oh so blonde viking braids whilst listening to Finntroll, courtesy of the folk metal maniac.

Me likey. The Finnish troll dudes sing in Swedish, because it sounds so damn trollish, and I totally agree, despite the frustration of having only to hum. What they use extensively is a great motley of metal and humppa (Finnish polka), which makes them bloody entertaining.

Here's a sweet polka-inspired song from Jaktens Tid album, a very diverse mix of sounds and inspirations, Bakom Varje Fura, which takes you to happy forestlands, where trolls and faeries roam free and spirits of the air buzz in the trees.

Here's Eliytres, a tad more epic, still faerie tale-oriented, with a cheerful feeling of wild banquet between the nine worlds (from the album Nattfodd). The wedding of Herr Mannelig and the troll would probably sound like this.

For a little more grunt and happy troll hammering, check out the videos, Trollhammaren, and Nedgång, for a nice dark medieval, witchy atmosphere.

Mad Sin days

A couple of weeks ago I got my greedy paws on a large rockabilly psychobilly selection. Having been lured into strangely liking this by the relentless efforts of the bitchy stray dog and his Coffinshakers fixation, I went on holiday mildly and mournfully headbanging, with a grave grin on my face.

The first band that really got a grip on my ears was Mad Sin, a German psychobilly band that just turned 20 last year, releasing the 10th album, 20 Years of Sin Sin.

After 2 deranged weeks of sinful madness, I decided to meet them... What shall it be? Moscow or St. Pete? Who wants to tag along?
